![]() ![]() Your Mac is untouched, but you’re in a good position to test while booted from the SSD and then reverse this restore process on the Mac if you decide to. Once that’s done you’ve basically recreated your Mac on the SSD but with one new account (Test or Admin) for testing purposes. Migrate Applications and User Account(s). Once fully updated, launch Migration Assistant to migrate data from the Mac onto the SSD. Keep in mind you are booting from your SSD and updating the OS on it, performance may be a bit slow. Don’t restore data during setup, instead Create an account called Test or Admin. When install is done the Mac will boot from the SSD. Once Monterey installer launches, Choose to install it on the external SSD DRIVE. Because you’ll have a bootable environment from which to do so using the App Store.Īttach SSD, format (this will ERASE all data!) For MacOS Extended (journaled) using Disk Utility ![]() It also makes it a snap reverse this process, erase your Mac and install Monterey fresh and then restore your data. It’s like a Time Machine backup but bootable. This preserves your Mac intact in case something goes wrong, but recreates your Mac with all your data as a bootable SSD for testing and restore purposes. Instead of using time machine, I’d approach this a different way: install Monterey onto the SSD, boot from the SSD, Migrate my data to the SSD. Given the circumstance, if you do proceed with restoring, I’d avoid Internet Recovery at all costs. ![]() Have you tested if the issue occurs in a new Account on your Mac?
